Simple glass of water trick can help encourage better hair care journey

It's quite common to believe you have straight hair when, in reality, you might be sporting wavy tresses but using the wrong products that weigh them down, straightening your strands out.
While there are online quizzes available to determine your hair 'type,' a woman revealed a simple method to check its porosity: placing some strands of your hair in a glass of water. This will provide the necessary information for your proper hair care journey.
Tessa Peay, a regular poster of hair care and lifestyle content on TikTok, emphasised the importance of knowing your hair's porosity. Without this knowledge, you could be using inappropriate products, inadvertently causing your hair to appear dull.

She warned you're "throwing money away on products that don't work for you," which can be incredibly frustrating when you're striving for your ideal locks.
To assess your hair's porosity, she suggested starting with clean hair free of any product, then "take a couple of pieces of hair and cut them to be three inches".
Next, "fill a glass with water," set a timer for five minutes, and "let it sit still". After the five minutes, "depending on where it floats is your hair's porosity", she explained.
She also shared an infographic explaining what the floating position of your hair signifies. If your hair floats to the top of the glass, it indicates low hair porosity.
This indicates that you have closed hair cuticles, making your hair less prone to absorbing moisture and increasing the chances of product buildup. If your strands position themselves in the centre of the glass, it denotes medium hair porosity,
