Simon Jordan disagrees with Danny Mills as pair debate Kalvin Phillips fee received by Leeds United

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan does not think £42 million for Kalvin Phillips is bad business for Leeds United. Phillips has undergone a medical at Manchester City today as he looks to tie up the formalities of his move to the Premier League champions from Elland Road.

The agreed fee of £42 million has caused much debate throughout the football world, with some claiming Leeds could have asked for more from City, and others believing it is a fair price. Phillips, though, is set to become one of the most expensive holding midfielders of all time, with only a handful having gone for more money in previous windows.

Having said that, Phillips is now a fully fledged England international and is among Gareth Southgate’s most trusted group of players. The Three Lions reached the final of the EUROs last summer with Phillips starting every game and missing just 25 minutes of football when England were already 4-0 up against Ukraine.

Speaking on talkSPORT this morning, Jordan was debating with former Leeds defender Danny Mills, who believes that Leeds have undervalued Phillips. Jordan disagreed though and claimed that £42 million is about right for someone of Phillips’ ability.

He said: “I don’t look at this and say it’s particularly bad business. I’m not in the camp that Phillips is a wonderful player. I think at £42m – he’s alright, he’s OK. I think he’s a symptom of a certain type of player. He’s OK.”
