Should offices close at high temperatures?

The UK has seen soaring temperatures at the start of this week, with the country baking in the midst of a scorching heatwave.

But with the country not used to regularly hot weather like this, certain provisions aren't in place to help people and infrastructure cope with the extreme heat.

This includes specific rules on unsafe working temperatures, so we want to know if you think offices should be forced to shut above a certain temperature.

Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

Temperatures hit the high 30s in Manchester on Tuesday, with the hottest night on record also being recorded in Yorkshire as well as the record breaking UK temperature, as people were given little respite from the heat.

Current Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations in the UK state that temperatures inside offices and other workplace buildings must be 'reasonable', but no specific temperature guidance is currently given.

In the USA, the maximum temperature for office working is 24.4C (76F) while in Germany guidance is offered at 26C as the maximum for workplaces, although this is not written into law.

Some buildings in Manchester have already been forced to shut, with a Job centre in Wythenshawe and two food halls temporarily closing during the heatwave.

Do you think the UK should adopt a similar policy for hot weather? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
