Should Huddersfield Town re-ignite their transfer interest in Oxford’s Mark Sykes in the summer?

Huddersfield Town have plenty to play for as we approach the sharp end of the Sky Bet Championship season. 

Carlos Corberan has Huddersfield currently sitting third in the Championship table and on the cusp of a play-off campaign that will shape the club’s transfer plans.

Up and down the EFL, a number of clubs are in a similar situation, where summer business is on ice as they await confirmation of the division they’ll be competing in during 2022/23.

That’s certainly the case for Huddersfield, as a transfer window preparing for the Premier League will look a lot different to one gearing up for the Championship’s slog.

Oxford United are in a similar position, albeit in League One, as Karl Robinson’s side look to cling onto the chance of play-off football.

One player that might come into conversation for both the aforementioned clubs is Mark Sykes, who Football Insider claimed was on Huddersfield’s radar back in the January transfer window.

A move never materialised and Sykes remained with Oxford where, up until early March, there was no development on his contract at the Kassam Stadium.

The question, then, is whether Huddersfield will be back in for the 24-year-old as he continues to impress in an Oxford shirt with eight goals and five assists in 37 appearances this season.

Danel Sinani’s future at the John Smith’s Stadium is unclear given he’s only on loan from Norwich City, with Sykes very much in the mould of the Luxembourg international in terms of the attacking midfield positions he plays. There’s also, potentially, the departure of Lewis O’Brien to consider if Huddersfield aren’t promoted.
