“Should be looking for better” – QPR linked with £1m forward addition: The verdict

QPR are interested in Wigan striker Will Keane, according to a report from The Sun. 

The 29-year-old won the League One golden boot last season by scoring 26 goals as he helped the Latics win the third tier title and secure their return to the Championship.

Keane is said to be valued at around £1 million, with the R’s among the clubs keen.

But would he be a good signing for the west London club? And do they need him?

This does not seem like the right move for either party at this stage.

Keane has had an outstanding season with the Latics, coming from the back of the pack to claim the third tier golden boot, but he is unproven as a Championship goalscorer.

It feels like a very good fit at Wigan under Leam Richardson, and that that environment has been the most influential thing in Keane’s stark improvement in 2021/22, rather than him suddenly becoming a player capable of competing in the top half of the second tier, which is where QPR will be aiming next term.

Including loans, Keane has already changed clubs eight times in his career, and at 29 he should not sacrifice everything he has achieved at Wigan for a QPR return.

Additionally, Rangers should be looking for better if they want to push for the top six again.

It’s an intriguing one.

I think Keane had a fine season and so obviously deserves a shot in the Championship but I think maybe him remaining at Wigan and showing what he can do after their promotion would be the better play here.
