Shortlist unveiled for 2024 Stewartry Sports Awards in Castle Douglas
The shortlist for this year’s Stewartry Sports Awards can now be revealed.
Members of Stewartry Sports Council and sponsors recently got together to go through the mountain of nominations.
As always, it was a hard job after another tremendous year for athletes, clubs, teams and coaches from the Stewartry.
The awards evening will be held at Castle Douglas Golf Club at 7pm on Friday, November 15.
This year’s contenders for sports personality of the year, sponsored by The Galloway News, are Sean Allan for judo, Lewis Martin for cycling, Alison Pringle for swimming and triathlon and Lisa Ritchie for rugby.
The four are also shortlisted for the outstanding achievement at club level, sponsored by Jas P Wilson, as are cyclists David Houston and Rebecca Saunderson and horse rider Heather Conn.
The nominees for junior sports personality, sponsored by The Co-operative, are Sam Barbour for cycling, Sam Brown for judo, Logan Carson for curling, Anna Hutchison for lacrosse, Fern Lundy for ice hockey, Fallon McGimpsey for tennis, Darby Mitchell for gymnastics and Zak Rawlings for rugby.
Zach, Logan and Fallon also make the outstanding junior achievement at club level prize shortlist, sponsored by J Smith Fencing, along with cycling siblings Cobey, Josh and Mitch Stewart.
The contenders for this year’s team prize, sponsored by BSW Timber, are football sides Dalbeattie Star Girls, Threave Rovers 2007s and Threave Girls under-14s and the cyclists from Studio Velo.
The shortlist for the club of the year shortlist, sponsored by Sulwath Brewers, also features Dalbeattie Star Girls, Studio Velo and Threave Girls as well as Castle Douglas Judo Club, Stewartry Athletics Club and Stewartry Pony Club.
