Shop worker at centre of murder probe was found on living room floor 'surrounded by large amount of blood'

A shop worker at the centre of a murder investigation was discovered 'unresponsive' on his living room floor surrounded by 'a large amount of blood' an inquest opening has heard.

Esmaeil Tofigh, 56, died at his home address on Plymouth Grove on Longsight on Sunday, February 5 this year. A 27-year-old man has been charged with his murder.

An inquest into his death was opened today (Thursday) at Manchester Coroner's Court.

The hearing was told Mr Tofigh, was born in Iran in 1966, was a divorced 'store assistant.' Outlining the brief circumstances of his death, Senior Coroner Nigel Meadows said: "He was found on the living room floor of his home address unresponsive with a large amount of blood surrounding him. Paramedics attended and declared life extinct."

Mr Tofigh was identified by an expert by means of 'fingerprint comparison' he said. "A Greater Manchester Police investigation into the death is ongoing," Mr Meadows added.

He said Tarik Hussein had been charged with an offence of murder.

Hussein, 27, also of Plymouth Grove, appeared in court earlier this month and is due to stand trial in the summer.

None of Mr Tofigh's family were present at the short hearing at the coroner's court, housed inside the Royal Exchange building. Mr Meadows said he was legally obliged to suspend the coronial investigation pending the outcome of the proceedings in the criminal court.
