Shola Shoretire names two key lessons Manchester United's academy has taught him

Shola Shoretire has named 'mentality' and 'work rate' as the two key qualities Manchester United's academy has taught him.

Shoretire was named United's Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year last season and he's among the club's brightest youth prospects. Shoretire has contributed six goals and seven assists in 20 appearances in the Premier League 2 this term.

The 18-year-old has played in wide attacking positions during his time at United, but U23 manager Neil Wood has recently played him in a deeper central midfield role. Shoretire played in that position in games against Leicester and Chelsea this month.

Shoretire, recently speaking in an extensive interview with Versus, was asked about his time at the club. The youngster has reflected on his development and he named 'mentality' and 'work rate' as the two lessons the academy has taught him.

"It sounds cliché, but it’s down to mentality and work rate," Shoretire said.

"Those are the two biggest things. You can be very talented, but you have to have the right mentality coming on the pitch or even in training. There are always eyes on you both on and off the pitch because you play for United.

"So it’s important to work hard and be a likeable person."
