Shocking picture shows wrecked vehicle after four car smash on M56 - the occupants walked away

This is the wreckage of a car involved in a ‘four-vehicle collision’ on the M56 tonight (November 20).

The crash saw the motorway partially blocked on the eastbound side between junction 3 for Princess Parkway and junction 4, the Wythenshawe interchange. It led to long queues at roughly 8:30pm.

Even though one car was reduced to a wreckage, its occupants walked away with only minor injuries, according to North West Motorway Police. They also confirmed how many vehicles were involved.

“There were delays earlier on the M56 near to J4 as National Highways & emergency services dealt with a four vehicle road traffic collision,” a tweet from motorway cops said. “This has all been cleared and traffic is now running well again. Minor injuries reported to some of the occupants, including those from this vehicle.”

One motorist caught up in the traffic, J D Burgess, posted on social media: “Manchester bound M56 stopped with traffic held just before J3 interchange/A5103 Princess Parkway. Lengthy queues; avoid if possible.”

Another user called David said he had ‘not moved for at least half an hour’. However, despite the queues, the incident was cleared and the road returned to normal by 10pm.
