As A-listers descend on Manchester for Chanel's show, a very different fashion collection will be unveiled five minutes away

As the world’s fashion royalty descends on the Northern Quarter for Chanel’s Metiers D’Art show tonight (December 7), a new ‘collection’ has been unveiled for a much more worthy cause.

Manchester’s oldest homelessness charity, Lifeshare, has launched a campaign calling for public support to tackle the huge issue of clothing poverty. It’s asking for donations to help the 7,400 homeless people living across Manchester — with demand for clothing sky-rocketing by 158 percent in the last 12 months.

The campaign, called ‘The A/W23 Collection by Lifeshare’, has been established at the charity’s offices, which are only a five-minute walk from the Thomas Street runway which has been constructed over the last few weeks. Like Chanel, Lifeshare also has famous faces attached to its campaign.

“As a long-time supporter of Lifeshare, I’m well aware of the important work they do in supporting Manchester’s homeless community, especially throughout the winter months which are particularly difficult for those that can’t afford to buy clothes – let alone high fashion,” said actress Maxine Peake.

“I’m proud to have donated practical items like jackets and new underwear, and would encourage anyone else planning to visit the Northern Quarter over the coming days do the same, to help us redefine street fashion and tackle clothing poverty.”
