Shelbourne see off Sligo as weather claims Women's Premier Division fixtures

Shelbourne recorded a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Sligo Rovers on a night when two games failed pitch inspections in the SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division.

The clash of Galway United and Athlone Town was called off this afternoon when the surface at Eamonn Deacy Park was deemed unplayable, while DLR Waves' home encounter against Shamrock Rovers at the UCD Bowl suffered a similar fate, with standing water on the pitch preventing the fixture going ahead.

Emma Hansberry gave Sligo Rovers a dream start against Shelbourne at Tolka Park, opening the scoring after just three minutes with a thunderbolt from the edge of the area.

An unmarked Christie Gray turned and drilled an effort to the roof of the Rovers net just two minutes after the restart to restore parity for the home team.

Hansberry's night ended on a sour note when she was dismissed after picking up a second booking, while Megan Smyth-Lynch's cross-cum-shot gave Shelbourne all three points moments later.
