Sheffield Wednesday's Callum Paterson opens up on how players are rebuilding supporter relations

Sheffield Wednesday striker Callum Paterson has explained how the players are attempting to rebuild the relationship between the club and supporters.

Paterson was on the scoresheet for the second successive game on Saturday as he found the net shortly before the break in Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Charlton Athletic.

The Owls have endured a tough couple of years both on and off the pitch recently which eventually culminated in relegation from the Championship last season.

However, after a slow start to the current campaign, Wednesday have shown promotion level form in recent weeks with six victories in their last seven matches.

Their win over the Addicks moved Darren Moore’s side back into the top six, a position they will want to remain from now until the end of the season.

Speaking after the game, Paterson was asked what the players are doing to rekindle the bond with the supporters and hopes they can continue this by getting more wins on the board.

He said: “We’re just having a good time instead of getting on each other’s backs. Whenever we miss chances and we hammer each other, it brings the whole mood of the fans down.

“It’s all about us winning big tackles and chasing the ball and putting our bodies on the line so it’s good for us as a team and obviously the fans get a lift from it too.

“We’ve always had the confidence. It’s nice to put a little run together, we’ve done it before but hopefully we’ll carry this one on. Like I say, we’ve always had the confidence but results and decisions haven’t gone our way. It’s nice to be picking up some points and keep building.”
