Sheffield Wednesday reject two Scottish Premiership loan offers for long-serving player

Sheffield Wednesday have turned down approaches from two Scottish Premiership teams to sign Cameron Dawson, it has emerged. Yorkshire Live understands Aberdeen and St Johnstone showed strong interest in taking the Owls goalkeeper on loan for next season.

But Wednesday have rebuffed their advances and told potential suitors for Dawson that he is not available for transfer. The 26-year-old is part of Darren Moore's first team plans and looks set to compete with David Stockdale for the No 1 jersey when the new campaign gets under way next month.

Dawson's market value has shot up following a superb loan spell at Exeter City last term. He established himself as a firm fans' favourite at St James Park after chalking up a superb 19 clean sheets in 50 outings to help the Grecians clinch automatic promotion to League One.

Dawson, who has two years left to run on his Owls contract, only missed one natch in Exeter's promotion-winning season due to illness. Exeter boss Matt Taylor enjoyed working with Dawson but has already ruled out the possibility of him returning to Devon.

"I would love to bring Cam Dawson back to the football club and everyone associated with Exeter City would love to see Cam Dawson back with ourselves, but he’s at a monster of a club in the league that we are going into and unfortunately, we simply cannot afford to bring Cam Dawson back," he said.

“If any deal could be done which was similar to this year, then it allows us to speak to these types of goalkeepers and these types of players and these types of clubs. But realistically, on the back of the season he had previously, which was injury-affected, we got him at a really discounted rate and it was a really good deal.
