Sheffield United launch iconic retro kit range bringing back memories of famous promotion day

Sheffield United have launched the latest range in their retro collection and it will bring back memories for older fans who witnessed one of the club's greatest seasons. The old Division Four title triumph under Ian Porterfield remains one of the club's greatest seasons.

The curtain on that championship-winning campaign came down at Darlington on a day that saw thousands of Blades descend on the old Feethams ground.

The team that season featured the likes of Keith Edwards, Colin Morris, Tony Kenworthy, John MacPhail and Bob Hatton.

Supporters can now relive that period by purchasing the club's yellow and purple striped away shirt, which is part of a range that also includes the 1996-97 home top.

That season saw Sheffield United, under Howard Kendall, reach the Division One play-off final at Wembley, but they fell just short of promotion to the top flight courtesy of a last-gasp goal from David Hopkins that secured a 1-0 win for Crystal Palace.

It was a top worn by the likes of Jan Aage-Fjortoft, Andy Walker, Don Hutchinson and Petr Kachuro and was another memorable campaign.

The shirts are available to purchase online at www.sufcdirect.co.uk before they will go on sale in the club's shop.

The 96-97 shirt is available at £45, while the 1981-82 away top costs £55.

The idea behind the retro range has been to allow fans the chance to celebrate and reconnect with some of the club's memorable seasons over the years as well as enjoying some of the kits they sported but may no longer own.
