Sheffield United hopeful defender will make return before the end of the season

The Brentford loanee was sent off in his last appearance for the club and has since injured his cartilage.

The injury came right when his three-game suspension was completed making it awful timing for all parties involved.

United are currently suffering an injury crisis with 10 other players currently absent from the side.

But Heckingbottom is hoping that Goode will make a return to the side before the end of his stint with the club.

United’s head of player development Jack Lester has confirmed that Goode has gone back to his parent club to rehab his injury.

“He’s back at Brentford,” said Lester, via The Star.

“He’s had an injection and we’re waiting to see if it settles down. So he’s not with us.

“We’re hoping not [that he won’t miss the season]. We’re waiting to see how the last procedure went and we’ll see in a couple of weeks if it settles down.”

Lester also went on to confirm that John Fleck has returned to training this week having suffered from a groin injury.

Sheffield United have lost ground on their play-off rivals in recent weeks as they lost 4-1 to Coventry City and drew 0-0 with Blackpool in the last week.

That has left the Blades ninth in the Championship table, one point away from the play-off places.

Up next for United is the visit of Barnsley to Bramall Lane on Saturday.

United are suffering quite a lot of injuries at such an important stage of the season.

Goode has proven himself to be a useful player for the team so his absence is felt in the side.

United will be hoping he can make his return to the side sometime after the international break.

The Blades will need all hands on deck going into the most important games of the season.
