Sheffield United fan pundit offers his thoughts on the future of David McGoldrick at Bramall Lane

David McGoldrick has been with Sheffield United since 2018 and has been a regular in the side since joining. 

As part of the squad that went up to the Premier League, he is a well loved player at Bramall Lane.

The 34-year-old has had a bit of a tougher season with the Blades this season having suffered with injury meaning he has made 19 league appearances, scored two goals and contributed four assists.

The forward hasn’t been in the squad since February being ruled out with a thigh injury.

The Blades currently sit sixth in the league and whether or not they go up this season, they will be looking to have a strong squad next season that is able to push on.

With that in mind, we asked FLW’s Sheffield United fan pundit Owain Wyse if he thinks David McGoldrick should be offered a new contract.

He said: “McGoldrick is a player that all our fans like. He was an integral part of the team that got promoted for us as well as being exceptional in his first season in the Premier League.

“He’s a very clever player, he likes to receive the ball deep and build attacks by bringing other players into play. He’s been vital in the past with our way of playing.

“However, with his age and current injury problems putting him out until at least the end of the season, I would thank him for his incredible service and allow his contract to run out.”
