Sheffield United eyeing League One star but face competition from Premier League side

Sheffield United have been linked with another player this week. MK Dons' defender Harry Darling has been credited with interest from S2, along with Championship side Swansea and Premier League outfit Brighton.

The exciting 22-year-old was named in the EFL League One team of the season after a stellar campaign in the third tier. He also chipped in with seven goals as the Dons finished third, just missing out on promotion to the Championship.

Yorkshire Live's sister site WalesOnline claims all three clubs have explored the option of signing him, with the player well known to Swansea boss Russell Martin, who was his manager at Stadium MK last season.

The Blades are in the market for young, up-and-coming talent and Darling certainly fits the bill. Technically gifted, he produced the second highest passes per game in League One with an average of 66.2.

United have also been linked with Wolves defender Dion Sanderson. Also 22, they tried to lure him to Bramall Lane twice during both transfer windows last season and has been on the club's radar ever since his loan spell at Sunderland two seasons ago.

Defence is among the priorities that Paul Heckingbottom is looking to fill in the summer as part of his recruitment drive and United have already made their moves in the market. CEO Stephen Bettis this week confirmed that the club is closing in on two new signings.
