Sheffield United confirm free agent training with the club amid injury crisis
The defender was on trial with Birmingham City, but Lee Bowyer sparked rumours that he was training with the Blades midweek.
United are suffering an injury crisis so could use Wisdom as an emergency signing if they are happy with his progress.
The former Derby County defender is currently without a club having left Pride Park in the summer.
Wisdom came through the Liverpool academy before enjoying loan spells with West Brom, Norwich City and RB Salzburg.
United’s head of player development Jack Lester has confirmed that Wisdom has been with the team this week and that a decision on his future has yet to be made.
“He’s training, and we’ll see how he gets on,” said Lester, via The Star.
“He’s been here a couple of days, and it’ll be a week or so before a decision is made.
“He’s had a couple of games at Birmingham and was training there, but he’s not had any competitive football.
“It’s not just for a favour; he’s a good player and with the injuries we’ve had across the back, we’re looking to add some experience.
“And that’s why we’re having a look at him.”
Lester went on to suggest that the final decision will come down to manager Paul Heckingbottom as the club weigh up a short-term or long-term deal if they do pull the trigger on registering him with the team.
Wisdom is capable of playing centre-back and as right-back so will offer a versatility that the team now sorely needs amid an injury crisis that has 11 players out of action.
Wisdom would be a good addition to the United side given the circumstances.
To have so many injuries does mean that there is a certain desperation to United’s movement.
But Wisdom would be a good option to have in the team, especially given his ability to play in multiple roles.
