Sheedy: Galway can feel aggrieved over referee's decision

Galway can feel aggrieved at only coming away from Chadwicks Wexford Park with a draw on Saturday, according to former Tipperary manager Liam Sheedy.

The Tribesmen appeared to be in control of the Leinster SHC tie when they led by six points late on. But Wexford, thanks in part to a Conor McDonald goal, fought back to earn a draw.

There was controversy with one of the Yellowbellies' late points however as referee Thomas Walsh took a free away from Galway after judging that Conor Cooney had taken too long over the ball.

It meant a throw in, which Lee Chin won, before firing over a score. A deficit that might have been three points for the hosts was suddenly down to one, and Chin would fire the equaliser from a free moments later.

Henry Shefflin told RTÉ Sport after the game that the decision had been 'harsh' and Sheedy, speaking on RTÉ's Sunday Game, agreed with the Galway manager.

"It was a big talking point and what Thomas Walsh did was very unusual to see," the 2019 All-Ireland winning manager said.

"Everyone agrees that Galway should have won the game and they left Wexford in it.

"If I was standing in Henry Shefflin's shoes I would be cross because it's not something we generally see. A big moment in the match. I think it was crowd influenced.

"I think Thomas Walsh got it wrong.

"Having said that Wexford took full advantage of it and managed to squeeze a point that they'll be delighted they got."
