'She's worked bloody hard and her hard work paid off!' Mum's proud words after daughter took on her toughest test

Today's headlines will be full of students who have achieved grade 8 and 9s in their GCSEs - but for many passing the exams after years of hard work is more than enough.

Emily, a year 11 pupil, achieved amazing results in GCSES, but it was one subject in particular that worried her. Some struggle with science or English but for Emily it was maths that proved the most difficult.

And, when the Flixton Girls School student opened her envelope today, she found a very exciting 5 written in the maths column, alongside a 9 in sociology and high grades across her other subjects.

"She's worked bloody hard." said Emily's very happy mum. "Her hard work paid off. We were worried about maths but she's got it and we're very proud."

Emily, armed with her amazing grades, will be setting off for Loreto college to study for her A levels. She said: "I didn't think I'd get it. I'm really happy."

Among the proud parents and pupils, school principal Miss Tedford was often stopped and thanked as she wished students well.

Beaming, she told the MEN: "They've done so well. We've had some amazing results, and they have done themselves proud."

Other pupils who achieved great success include Judie who was with her very proud mum, and has dreams to reach Oxford, and Sophie who is heading off to sixth form to study maths.

Many students gave advice for those next year but a trio of good friends said it best: "Start revising early and don't let it pile up. Once an exam is done don't dwell on it and make sure you don't spend to much time on Tiktok!"
