Shaun Ryder to play first solo gig in 11 years for mental health charity Mind

Happy Mondays star Shaun Ryder is to play a special solo show for the first time in 11 years in aid of mental health charity Mind. Madchester legend Shaun will perform with a live band on stage at Manchester's Factory 251 club on Friday night, October 7.

The location will take Shaun back to where it all began - at the venue which was was famously once home to Manchester's Factory Records, the label which first launched Happy Mondays onto the music scene back in the 1980s. The upcoming gig will be a chance for fans to hear Shaun's solo work from last year's Visits From Future Technology as well as a "few select surprises".

The show will also have a very special guest DJ set from Creation Records founder, and the man who first signed Oasis, Alan McGee.

Shaun says of the show: "I'm really looking forward to playing my first solo show in 11 years. It'll be great to play some songs from my album Visits from Future Technology live."

His solo album was created in unusual circumstances when in 2010, he started work on a new project with producer Sonny Levine in Florida. But one thing led to another and the album ended up on the backburner, and then was all but forgotten about.

A decade on Alan McGee suggested he revisit the record, which led to Shaun re-recording some of the vocals and Sonny Levine remixing the set. Ultimately - eleven years later - it would prove to be worth the wait with criticial acclaim.
