Sharks tweak side for Stormers URC derby, top Boks rested

Sharks director of rugby Neil Powell has named his team for Saturday's URC derby against the Stormers in Durban.

Springbok resting protocols have necessitated a number of changes from the Sharks teams picked in recent weeks.

Powell has made two changes to his front row from the team that won 22-19 away to Edinburgh last week. Ntuthuko Mchunu replaces Ox Nche and Carlu Sadie comes in for Thomas du Toit, with the rest of the pack remaining in place.

Cameron Wright starts at scrumhalf in place of the injured Grant Williams, while Rohan Janse van Rensburg is back in midfield to partner Ben Tapuai. Tapuai shifts to outside centre in place of Francois Venter.

Fullback Aphelele Fassi, who was named and Man of the Match against Edinburgh last week, said the Sharks were in a good space.

"We've taken a lot of energy out of that game," Fassi said. "There was massive character shown by the boys and we're very proud of that. I could see on the training pitch this week that there's a lot of belief and energy in the group. From a defensive point of view, that win was a positive from us and it’s something we want to continue to grow."

Looking ahead to the Stormers clash, Fassi acknowledged the huge challenge that lies ahead against the defending champions.

"Coastal derbies are always special, we know the style of play they want to play, we know the threats they bring in terms of the breakdown, the set-piece and going forward in terms of our plan is to just match that and take the opportunities we’ve identified. And being clinical in converting those into points."

Saturday's clash at Kings Park kicks off at 14:00.

Teams:
