Sharks take another step forward with commanding Dragons win

The Sharks took another significant step in the right direction on Sunday night with a 29-9 European Challenge Cup win over the Dragons at Rodney Parade Stadium.

It has been a woeful season for the Durbanites so far and they currently occupy 16th and last place in the United Rugby Championship.

This win, however, means that they finish top of Pool 1 in the Challenge Cup with home ground advantage heading into the round of 16.

Were the Sharks at their best? Nowhere near. But, this is a win on the road and will provide the Kings Park faithful with a dose of much-needed promise that all is not lost in 2023/24.

Lock forward Gerbrandt Grobler, awarded man of the match, was hugely influential for the Sharks have dominated at the lineout and in the physical exchanges.

In the end, the visitors scored five tries while all Dragons had to show for their efforts were three Cal Evans penalties.

Scorers:

Dragons 9 (6)

Penalties: Cal Evans (3)

Sharks 29 (12)

Tries: Jaden Hendrikse, Ox Nche, Gerbrandt Grobler, Le Roux Roets, Werner Kok

Conversions: Curwin Bosch (2)
