Shane Warne funeral details revealed as cricket legend’s body is flown home

New details have been revealed about plans to farewell Shane Warne following the cricket star’s shock death.

It is understood a private funeral will be held for the legendary leg-spin bowler as early as next week before a state funeral is expected to take place at the MCG on Wednesday, March 30.

Warne’s body will be flown home to Melbourne from Bangkok by private jet on Wednesday or Thursday after Thai authorities confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his sudden death.

Authorities on Monday said autopsy results showed the 52-year-old had suffered a suspected heart attack in his villa on holiday island Koh Samui on Friday.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced this week that Warne’s devastated family had accepted his offer of a state funeral, which is likely to be a star-studded affair.

Up to 100,000 friends, family members and fans could pack the MCG for the send-off, with final details to be announced in the coming days.

Fans may be able to secure tickets online.

Eddie McGuire is tipped to be the master of ceremonies for the event, while Warne’s celerity friends including Chris Martin, Mick Jagger and Ed Sheeran could be in attendance and may take the stage.

Sheeran had spoken to Warne in the days leading up to his death where they mourned the anniversary of the loss of their mutual friend, music promoter Michael Gudinski.

“The world keeps taking incredible people away,” Sheeran said on Instagram following Warne’s death.
