Shamrock Rovers grab late draw against Derry City to boost title chances

Shamrock Rovers scored a late penalty to boost their title chances with a 1-1 draw against Derry City at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.

After an even first half, it was Cameron McJannett who gave Derry City the lead in the 62nd minute.

It looked as though they would hold on for victory until the 84th minute, when Shane McEleney was sent off for pulling down Graham Burke, and Shamrock Rovers were awarded a penalty.

Burke made no mistake from the spot to bring his side level, in a draw that suits his side with six games remaining.

In tonight's other action, the FAI Cup quarter-finals took place, with the biggest result coming from Eamon Deacy Park as Galway United defeated Dundalk 4-0.

Stephen Walsh, Edward McCarthy, Maurice Nugent and David Hurley scored the goals in the first-half, as Dundalk were left in shell shock as Galway United reach the semi-finals.

They are joined by Bohemians, who were made to work for a 3-1 win over Drogheda United, while Cork City defeated Wexford 2-1.

While a late goal gave St Patrick's Athletic a 2-1 win away to Finn Harps.
