Shamrock Rovers ease past Bohemians to secure Dublin derby victory at Tallaght Stadium

Shamrock Rovers maintained their push for the title as they easily accounted for Bohemians at Tallaght Stadium.

Stephen Bradley's side beat their fierce rivals 3-0 in what was largely a one-sided affair at the Dublin venue.

The Hoops opened the scoring from a corner kick three minutes before the break as Lee Grace connected with a Markus Poom corner with the resulting header flying past James Talbot in the Bohemians goal.

Rovers signalled their intent with a fast start to the second half and they were rewarded with a second goal just six minutes in after Rory Gaffney danced into the box before slipping the ball to Ronan Finn, who had pushed forward from his right wing-back position.

The Rovers captain showed calmness and composure to receive the ball and work the ball home from close range as the Hoops maintained their control of the game.

Victory never looked in doubt as Bohs failed to offer any sort of reaction to the second goal apart from a brief spell after the Finn effort, and Rovers sealed the three points with 81 minutes on the clock.

Substitute Neil Farrugia had only entered the fray when he was on hand to pick the ball up on the left side of the penalty area before taking a perfect touch with his left to set up a curling effort with his right foot that gave Talbot no chance as it flew into the far top corner.

Results elsewhere saw Rovers end the night increasing their lead at the top of the table to seven points, however, they will face a tough test in their next league outing as title hopefuls Derry City will look to narrow the gap at the top ahead of the final run in.
