Shamrock Rovers confirm steward will not work with club again

Shamrock Rovers have confirmed that a steward who was arrested following last night's SSE Airtricity Men's Premier Division clash with Galway United will not work with the club again.

The Hoops drew the game with the Connacht side as they missed the chance to close to within eight points of current leaders Derry City.

Footage appeared online showing a scuffle between one person and Gardaí in front of the Galway supporters section, with the man later being removed from the stadium by the Gardaí.

Rovers have confirmed that the man was arrested and that, as such, they will not be commenting any further on the incident, other than to confirm the steward won't work with the club again.

The Hoops' statement reads: "Shamrock Rovers F.C. is aware of footage circulating online of an incident involving a matchday steward and some Galway United fans at last night's match in Tallaght Stadium.

"This involved a steward reacting to an incident involving a firework. The club does not condone the actions of the steward in this situation and we apologise to Galway United fans involved for this isolated incident.

"The individual is not associated with the club’s main matchday security partner, Integrity Security, and was an independent contractor used on matchdays. This individual will not be hired in any capacity by Shamrock Rovers F.C. again. Shamrock Rovers F.C is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable match day experience for all at Tallaght Stadium.

"The individual concerned was removed by the Gardai and the matter is now in their hands and the club will not make any further comment."
