Seven teens arrested following assault of security staff at Bury shopping centre

Seven 'teen offenders' were arrested after security guards were attacked at JD Sports in Bury. According to police, the group were arrested on suspicion of affray following reports of an assault at The Rock shopping centre on Saturday (January 9).

A group of nine teenagers are said to have entered the store and 'attempted to select items which they were likely not going to pay for'. In a post on social media, GMP Bury North said that security staff for JD and The Rock confronted the group and 'deterred them from making off with stolen items'.

One member of the group was detained by security, which police say, prompted an assault on security staff by the other offenders. Cops say the suspects were all able to escape before seven of the original nine were found by neighbourhood officers and taken into custody for questioning.

Anyone with footage of the incident has been asked to contact police.

The full post on Facebook read: "On Saturday 13th January 2024, a group of 9 male teen offenders thought they would attend Bury town centre specifically the JD store on The Rock and commit crime. They entered the store as a group and attempted to select items which they were likely not going to pay for, fortunately the staff within the store assisted by The Rock security and deterred them from making off with any stolen items.
