Sergio Perez makes bold promise that Red Bull will 'dominate' F1 throughout new era

Red Bull driver Sergio Perez believes that the team is set to ‘dominate’ throughout Formula 1’s new era, after a promising start to the 2022 campaign.

Despite being compromised by three mechanical failures in the opening four rounds of the season, Red Bull have shown strongly early pace and are one of only two teams capable of competing for race wins based on raw pace alongside Ferrari.

Under the stewardship of chief technical officer Adrian Newey, the Milton Keynes-based squad has produced a quick car for F1’s new generation of technical regulations, which has seen the series return to ground effect aerodynamic concepts for the first time since the 1980s.

With long-time rivals Mercedes toiling, Red Bull have managed to unlock enough speed to allow Max Verstappen to mount a defence of the world championship he won at the controversial Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December, though Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc is the current leader in the drivers’ standings.

The team took a 1-2 finish at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola last weekend, with Verstappen winning ahead of Perez, and the Mexican believes the they are now set to ‘dominate’ F1 in the years to come.

‘We still have a lot of problems to solve, but the main thing is that we are competitive and Red Bull is set to dominate the next few years with these new regulations,’ Perez told Fox Sports Mexico.

‘We should be leading both the drivers’ and constructors’ titles . It has been a difficult start but the team has worked hard to be on par with Ferrari, we have cut several points from Ferrari.’
