Sergio Perez could be stripped of Singapore win after breaking safety car rules

Red Bull's Sergio Perez is under threat of having his Singapore victory taken away.

The Red Bull driver did all he could to secure the win ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, but one or more safety car infringements could have him stripped of it.

During the race, it became clear that Perez exceeded the maximum ten car lengths allowed between a driver and the safety car. Not just once but during both periods when the safety car was deployed.

If found guilty, Perez could face a five-second penalty per infringement. And if he is found guilty of two or more, that would be 10 seconds, at least, added to his race time.

And with Leclerc crossing the finish line 7.5 seconds after his Red Bull counterpart, it could mean we'll have a new race winner, with Perez demoted to second.

Perez will meet with Race Control at 00:55 local time (18:55 SA time), with the findings and possible penalties to be announced once a verdict has been reached.
