Serena Williams: Ons Jabeur 'over the moon' to partner tennis icon

Ons Jabeur has revealed she is “over the moon” to be playing with Serena Williams in the doubles tournament at Eastbourne International.

Williams stunned the world of sport yesterday when she announced she would be returning to the tennis court at Wimbledon.

The 40-year-old has not featured on the WTA Tour since last year’s Grand Slam, where she was forced to retire from her first-round match with injury.

“SW and SW19. It’s a date. 2022 See you there. Let’s go #renasarmy,” Williams wrote on her Instagram.

The LTA later confirmed the 23-time Grand Slam winner would also be playing in the doubles tournament at Eastbourne, which is scheduled to get underway on Saturday.

She will be competing alongside Jabeur, the current world number four who won the Madrid Open in May.

“Still over the moon with the news,” the 27-year-old said. “Really lucky that she picked me. I cannot wait to play with her. Such a legend.

“I always loved Serena, the way she plays, the way she is on court and outside the court.”

Jabeur also told WTA Insider that she felt confident on grass, having won last year’s Birmingham Classic.

“I feel like I have a great relationship with grass,” she said. “As soon as I find my timing, how to adapt to my shots, it becomes much better and I feel like I will be enjoying much more my time on grass.

“I like to see grass as a fun game because it’s much different from other surfaces. When I see it that way, I play much better.”

It remains to be seen
