Serbia threaten to QUIT Euro 2024 if Croatia and Albania punishment demand over 'kill the Serb' chant is ignored

Serbia have threatened to QUIT Euro 2024 if Croatia and Albania aren't punished for "offensive" chants.

The Football Association of Serbia (FSS) claim that both sets of fans chanted "Kill, kill, kill the Serb" during their 2-2 Group B draw in Hamburg on Wednesday. Tensions between Serbia and both Croatia and Albania from the Balkan war in the 1900s, which saw the break up of the former Yugoslavia and the establishment of Kosovo, which has a population of 1.8million Albanians.

Now the FSS have threatened to withdraw from the tournament ahead of today's clash with Slovenia. FSS general secretary Jovan Surbatovic said: “What happened is scandalous and we will ask UEFA for sanctions, even if it means not continuing the competition. We are sure they will be punished, because (UEFA) has already responded to our appeal to remove the so-called journalist from Albania from the championship. We will demand that UEFA punish both federations. We do not want to participate in that but, if UEFA does not punish them, we will think how we will proceed.”

His "so-called" journalist reference is in relation to a Kosovan TV reporter who made the double-headed eagle gesture with crossed hands towards Serbian fans during their opening match against England. The gesture represents the flag of Greater Albania and has been used as a goal celebration against the Serbians before, most notably by Swiss stars Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri - both ethnic Albanians - during the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The TV reporter has since been banned from reporting on the Euros for "misconduct". The Albanian FA were hit with a £32,000 fine by UEFA for their fans' behaviour during the 2-1 defeat to Italy on Saturday fo throwing objects, setting off fireworks,
