Serbia fined for breaking UEFA rules in Euro 2024 match vs England

UEFA has slapped the Serbian Football Association with a €14,500 fine after two offences were committed during their Euro 2024 defeat to England on Sunday.

The Serbians lost 1-0 to England in their Group C opening match on Sunday night, with Jude Bellingham scoring the only goal of the game with a header in the first half. Less than a day later, UEFA announced they had initiated disciplinary proceedings against Serbia.

On Monday, a statement was issued stating: "Disciplinary proceedings have been instigated in accordance with Article 55 of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR) following the UEFA European Championship group stage match between Serbia and England (0-1) played on 16 June 2024 in Gelsenkirchen, Germany."

The charges levelled against the Football Association of Serbia (FSS) included: "Charges against Football Association of Serbia (FSS): Throwing of objects, Art. 16(2)(b) DR, Transmitting a provocative message unfit for a sports event, Art. 16(2)(e) DR."

It was further stated that "The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) will decide on the matter in due course. Furthermore, an UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector will conduct a disciplinary investigation regarding alleged discriminatory behaviour.", reports the Mirror.

By Wednesday evening, it was confirmed that UEFA had imposed a €4,500 penalty for the "throwing of objects" and an additional €10,000 for "transmitting a provocative message not fit for a sports event".
