Sell-on clause details as Ben Davies set for £4m Rangers transfer from Liverpool

Ex-Preston North End defender Ben Davies is reportedly set to sign for Rangers in a £4million transfer from Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp's side are claimed to have agreed a deal with the Scottish Premier League giants, who are looking to replace the departing Calvin Bassey. Ajax are signing the centre-back in a deal which could rise to £22.9m.

Davies' move to Liverpool - on Deadline Day last winter - did not work out as hoped but the Reds will still almost double their money on the player. PNE parted ways with their academy product, who had less than six months left on his contract, for around £2.1m in total - £500k of which was paid initially.

Sheffield United took Davies on loan last season and he turned out 21 times for the Blades. Now, a move to Ibrox is in the offing, as Blackburn Rovers, Middlesbrough, Stoke and Burnley will all reportedly miss out on a summer transfer target. Davies did not play a competitive game for Liverpool but North End could still receive between £400-500k as a result of the Gers move. They inserted a 20 per cent sell on clause on any profit back in February 2021, as well as an England appearance clause.

The remainder of the touted £4m fee is reportedly achievable through add-ons, linked to matches played and team performance. Davies was linked with Celtic last year but will now move to the blue side of Glasgow, as Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side aim to win the title back from their bitter rivals.
