Selection chief Mpitsang left 'disappointed' by Shamsi's Twitter outburst: 'My door is open'

The door was always open.

That was a "disappointed" national selection convener Victor Mpitsang's message to Tabraiz Shamsi following the left-arm tweaker's thinly-veiled Twitter post suggesting that he wasn't fully backed at the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup.

The 32-year-old had gone into the tournament as South Africa's highest ranked bowler on the world player rankings, but only ended up playing two of their five group matches.

Shamsi had taken 3/20 earlier against Bangladesh - a spell that he ended up getting less credit for because the opponents' meek capitulation -  while also appearing in the ultimately crucial loss to Pakistan.

But he was left out of the deciding and fateful contest against Netherlands.

Prompted by England spinner Adil Rashid's fine spell in the final against the Pakistanis on Sunday, Shamsi made it clear he was unhappy about the way he was managed.

"Adil Rashid had only 2 wickets up until this final Played every game. Was assured of his place every game. Was backed every game ...now we can all see the result of that backing he received over the course of the tournament. Might win them the WORLD CUP TROPHY with this spell," he wrote.

Asked by a follower whether he was referencing Proteas team management, Shamsi replied: "It's not that deep lol... I've always been open about the fact that I believe the biggest difference for players to win games in big moments is how much they are backed and how settled they feel within the team.
