Sekhukhune double troubles Chiefs' CAF Champs League hopes: 'We only have ourselves to blame'

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane took responsibility for his team's 1-0 DStv Premiership defeat to Sekhukhune United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday, which dealt a blow to their CAF Champions League ambitions.

The loss means Chiefs dropped points for the second successive game and now remain six points behind fellow PSL runners-up contenders, second-placed SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates in third, with only four games to go.

A second-place finish behind PSL champions Sundowns, which would secure qualification to Africa's premier club competition next season, is seemingly slipping away for Chiefs.

Zwane believed they could have won the game, but admitted that their final third entries were not up to par.

"I thought we started off well. It looked like we were going to get a goal before they scored and, against the run of play, we conceded," Zwane told SuperSport TV after their second league defeat to Sekhukhune since a 1-0 loss at FNB Stadium in January.

"Recovering, obviously making sure that we don't allow them time and space on the ball, I think we gave them that room and from there we were chasing the game, and I still believed we were going to equalise, you know.

"But I don't think we were sharp enough in the final third entry, and our box entries today were not better than the previous games. It's one of those games where you're going to be chasing the game," he said.

Chiefs tried to put Sekhukhune under pressure in the second half with more strikers on the field.

Zwane admitted that their chances of qualifying for the CAF Champions League are now slim, but he said that they would keep working hard.

"Look, the chances now of finishing in second spot are getting smaller, you know.
