Khune 'not ready to retire' but declares Chiefs holds fate as contract nears expiration

Itumeleng Khune, the guardian of the goalposts, refuses to surrender to the inexorable march of time. With unwavering conviction, he declares that his journey with Kaizer Chiefs is far from over, and his gloves will not find solace on the shelf yet.

As the seasons unfold, Khune, now 35, accepted a supporting role in the shadow of Brandon Petersen, gracing the field in only a dozen encounters this year.

Yet, even as his playing time diminished, his influence as a senior statesman in the Chiefs' ranks remains unshakable. Under the watchful guidance of head coach Arthur Zwane, Khune's presence continues to hold sway.

The captain's armband still adorns his arm, but the sands of time have gently begun to trickle through the hourglass of his contract. With its imminent expiry at the end of June, Khune acknowledges that his fate lies in the hands of the Chiefs management.

He muses, "Should the club express a desire to retain my presence in a different capacity; I shall gratefully embrace their vision. In the realm of coaching, I may embark on a new chapter,
