Seider, Zegras, Bunting named Calder Trophy finalists

Toronto Maple Leafs winger Michael Bunting is one of the three finalists for the 2021-22 Calder Memorial Trophy.

Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras and defenceman Moritz Seider of the Detroit Red Wings are the other two nominees for “the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the National Hockey League."

Bunting, 26, had 23 goals and 63 points (first among rookies) in 79 games with the Maple Leafs this season. A fourth-round pick (117th overall) by the Arizona Coyotes at the 2014 NHL Draft, Bunting signed a two-year deal with Toronto in free agency last summer.

Seider, the sixth overall pick by the Red Wings in 2019, had seven goals and 50 points in 82 games this season while averaging 23:03 TOI.

Zegras was second in rookie scoring this season with 23 goals and 61 points in 75 games. He was invited the NHL All-Star Game this season as a guest, participating in the breakaway challenge. The 21-year-old was the ninth pick by Anaheim in 2019.
