Sebastien Haller: Dortmund star fought back tears at Eredivisie awards

Sebastien Haller gave an emotional speech after receiving the Eredivisie top goalscorer of the year award on Tuesday evening.

The Ivorian scored 21 goals for Ajax in Holland’s top-flight in the 2021/22 season.

His form in front of goal saw him make the €31 million move to Borussia Dortmund in July.

But, just weeks after signing for the German club, Haller was forced to pull out of their pre-season training camp after finding a tumour in his testicle.

Haller has been undergoing chemotherapy to combat the tumour.

The 28-year-old was well enough to collect the Willy van der Kuijlen trophy at the Eredivisie awards on Tuesday.

And he broke down in tears after going on to stage and collecting his award.

He said: “I have the chance to feel ok. Maybe the first two or three days in the hospital and the first two or three days after it’s not the best moment. But I’m lucky. I have people around me. My wife. My physio. Helped me every day to feel ok. People from Ajax. People from Dortmund…

“It’s not easy every day. But I feel great and it’s something that can happen to everyone. Not everyone can have this difficult moment. I’m surrounded by a lot of people. But like I said everything is fine. I feel good.”
