Sebastian Vettel & Fernando Alonso make predictions over Max Verstappen's title defence

Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso have both said that they feel as though Max Verstappen will now feel less pressure when driving in Formula 1, thanks to his title win last year.

There are several world champions on the grid this season in F1, with Lewis Hamilton also joining the aforementioned three.

Indeed, Verstappen is the latest driver to add his name to the most illustrious list in motorsport, and he’ll now be looking to defend that title this season.

Naturally, there is going to be intrigue and interest over how he does over the course of the coming months but speaking as people that have been there and done it, both Vettel and Alonso believe that the pressure will be reduced on Max and he should enjoy his racing now he knows he has achieved a lifetime goal.

“From what I remember, it is a boost,” Vettel said via the PA News Agency. “It takes a lot of weight off your shoulders, and it is a great feeling to start the season as a World Champion.

“You have the number one on your car, which is a privilege, and we would all like to be in that position.

“I didn’t see it as an extra burden, but a boost, and Max will probably feel the same.”

Alonso said, meanwhile:

“You start the season with less pressure because you have already accomplished one of your dreams.

“From now on, it is more fun and you go into the races knowing that you have already won the World Championship once.

“Of course, you always try to fight for the second title, but if anything, there will be less pressure on Max.”

A driver as talented and as ambitious as Max, though, will obviously want to add further titles to his haul, especially given he is only in his mid-20s.
