Sebastian Vettel drops hint over future racing once he leaves F1

Four-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel has said that he would be open to further switches to off-road racing if the opportunity presented itself, coming after he finished second in the Race of Champions to Sebastian Loeb at the weekend.

The German Aston Martin driver was taking part in the event once again at the weekend, with it held on snow and ice for the first time at a circuit in northern Sweden that partially used the frozen Baltic Sea as part of the track.

Indeed, it’s always a great event to see rally stars, Formula 1 drivers and other top motorsport figures taking one another on at this event, and Vettel did well on Sunday as he made the individual Champion of Champions final.

He lost out to nine-time WRC champ Loeb, though, who is obviously far more familiar to driving on ice and the experience appears to have given Vettel interest in doing it further in the future:

“Obviously, you saw that I’m still missing a little bit. But I think I enjoy it a lot,” Vettel said.

“I always enjoyed watching what they are doing. It is a different discipline so you’re still having fun with a car but it’s just there are a lot of differences.

“But it’s fascinating, we have a chat also over lunch to understand a little bit more, it’s not just you’re in the car and you’re driving.

“Very much like Formula 1 or in any category, there’s a lot of work behind the scenes, doing your pace notes and getting all the information you can, the same with us preparing the race and the analysis after.

“The sport progresses and there’s more to it than just driving which is also a challenge. So, for sure it’s not easy to just jump into it and be very good at it.
