Season's best for Mageean at Rome Diamond League meet

Ciara Mageean posted a season's best time in finishing fourth in the 1500 metres final at the Rome Diamond League meet.

The Portaferry native ran a time of 4:05.44 in a race won by Ethiopia’s Hirut Meshesha.

Mageean surpassed the time set at the Birmingham Diamond League three weeks ago, where like this evening, it was Great Britain’s Laura Muir who beat her to third spot in what was her first outdoor race of the season over the distance.

In the men’s 5000 metres final, Paul Robinson failed to finish. The 31-year-old began strongly, covering the first 2000 metres in 5:10, but along with Australian Jack Rayner, suffered a DNF.

The race was won by Kenya’s Nicholas Kimeli in a time of 12:46.33
