Sean Payton: Former Saints head coach lists three teams he wants to lead in 2023

Former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton is reportedly interested in taking over three different teams across the NFL. 

Sean Payton, alongside quarterback Drew Brees, helped to transform the New Orleans Saints as a franchise in the mid to late 2000s and into the 2010s. After the devastation that the team and the city went through after the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina, including a stint where the Saints had to spend a year playing away form the Superdome, they slowly but surely became perennial Super Bowl contenders. 

Then in 2009, it all culminated when they beat Hall of Famer Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV to claim the franchise’s first-ever Vince Lombardi Trophy, and every year after that they were always considered to be one of the teams capable of winning it all again.

During his time in New Orleans, Payton put together a record of 152-89 in the regular season and 9-8 in the postseason before stepping away to take a break from the game and work as a broadcaster. 

However it appears as though that break might not last too long, as according to reports, Payton is expressing interest in coaching not one, not two, but three teams across the NFL if they were to become available at the end of the upcoming season.

According to a report in the Miami Herald, Payton would like to take on the coaching roles of either the Miami Dolphins, Los Angeles Chargers or Dallas Cowboys, but also lists them as possible candidates ‘among other teams’, so it’s possible that the number doesn’t stop at those three.

Given his record with the Saints, you would imagine that any of those teams would be dying to take him on board and hope that he could do the same with their respective sides.
