Seán Kelly and Moycullen celebrating momentous weekend

Moycullen claimed a first Connacht SFC title in their history on Sunday to dull the pain Galway captain Seán Kelly experienced when the Tribesmen came up short against Kerry in this year's All-Ireland final.

Kelly's side led Sligo's Tourlestrane by 0-04 to 0-03 at the end of forgettable first half, where a strong breeze impacted the quality of fare on display.

However, Moycullen hit their stride after the restart to run out 0-13 to 0-06 winners.

"It's good to be on a winning side in these results," Kelly told RTÉ Sport after the final whistle.

"I've lost a few this year. I prefer the winning side!"

Moycullen's minors made it an even more memorable weekend by accounting for Claregalway on a 3-07 to 1-12 scoreline.

"It's the first time, so we're absolutely thrilled and delighted," Kelly added.

"It's a special time for the community and we'd a minor final as well yesterday.

"It's been a long time coming and there's been a lot of work put in."

Tourlestrane goalkeeper Adam Broe denied a fisted effort from Paul Kelly in the opening minute, with Ger Davoren seeing his thunderbolt rattle the crossbar in the first half, but Moycullen never grew frustrated.

"We knew it was going to be tough in the first half," Kelly said.

"There was a strong enough breeze and we knew they were compact and well set up defensively.

"I'd say it was a bit boring to watch but thankfully we got that one- or two-point lead and they had to come out and chase us in the second half and the space opened up and we were able to kick scores.

"I think it was eight points in the second half, so good scoring and a good win."

After lifting the Shane McGettigan Cup, Kelly and his team-mates can now look forward to an All-Ireland semi-final against either Kilcoo and Watty Graham's
