Sean Hurson named referee for All-Ireland SFC football final

Tyrone referee Sean Hurson will take charge of his second All-Ireland SFC final when he officiates the meeting of Armagh and Galway on 28 July.

The Galbally native was in charge of Galway's last visit to the final in 2022 when they lost out to Kerry in a high-scoring thriller.

That was deemed somewhat controversial at the time as Kingdom coach Paddy Tally came from the same club, but Tribe boss Pádraic Joyce said they had no issue with it.

Hurson also took charge of the 2018 All-Ireland Minor final, when Kerry again defeated Galway in the final, the 2021 All-Ireland Under-20 final, Offaly defeating Roscommon, and the 2022 All-Ireland Club final as Kilcoo got the better of Kilmacud Crokes.

Hurson was also in charge for the earlier All-Ireland round-robin clash between Armagh and Galway, a game that ended level at Markievicz Park.

It will be his 36th championship game with his first coming in 2016.

The final will be Hurson’s 34th Senior Football Championship fixture, since his first in 2016.

His linesmen on the day will be Kildare’s Brendan Cawley and Roscommon’s Paddy Neilan. Cawley will also act as standby referee while Tipperary’s Derek O’Mahony will be side-line official.

Hurson's umpires on the day will be Martin Coney and Cathal Forbes both from Ardboe, Mel Taggart from Clonoe and Shane Dorrity from Coalisland.
