Sean Dyche's half-time team talk exposes Everton's glaring weaknesses under Frank Lampard

Burnley manager Sean Dyche laid bare Everton's weaknesses on the road with his simple half-time team-talk, telling his players Everton didn't look like they knew how to win away from home before the Clarets came from behind to beat Frank Lampard's men and claim revenge for their early-season defeat against the Merseyside club.

Nathan Collins had given the home side an early lead, only for Richarlison to convert two penalty kicks before the break. Jay Rodriguez drew Burnley level within 15 minutes of the restart, though, and Maxwel Cornet completed the turnaround with the winning goal five minutes from time.

The result leaves Burnley just a point behind Everton with both sides still having nine games left to play. However, Everton's away form under Lampard will remain a concern, and Dyche's comments have only served to illuminate the issue.

"I think they've taken six points from 42 away from home so we thought there was an edge we could attack them," Dyche told Sky Sports after the game. "I reminded them at half-time that they had two soft penalties. But the reaction is very pleasing.

"It wasn't glorious," he admitted. "At half-time I said we need to get back to basics.

"We lost our shape and discipline and they had a pen out of nothing. Second half I said let's go back to basics with a bit of shape and quality."

Dyche and Burnley have been in relegation battles before, and the manager suggested the experience may have helped. This season isn't the first in which his side have started slowly - they were in the bottom three for several weeks last season - and he was able to call on that know-how.
