Seamus Power surges clear at Pebble Beach event
Seamus Power surged into the lead at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am after posting back-to-back eight-under-par rounds at the Californian event.
The Waterford native was second at the end of the opening round, however, Power moved clear at the top of the PGA Tour leaderboard early in Friday's second round and never looked back.
A birdie on the second hole was cancelled out by a bogey on five, however, Power's round really got going with consecutive birdies on six and seven before adding another on the ninth hole.
Power made it four in a row on the back nine as he reached the 12th hole on six under for his round before the 2016 Olympian picked up two further shots on the 14th and 16th.
A bogey on 17 following a sloppy tee shot halted Power's momentum, albeit momentarily, as he bounced back with another birdie on 18 to post the clubhouse lead on 16 under.
Overnight leader Tom Hoge is best of the chasing pack on 12 under, following a three-under 69, while Andrew Putnam is 11 under.
Cork native John Murphy battled back from a disappointing opening 75 to shoot 69 and get back to level par.
