Seahawks QB Darnold (hip) out after opening drive vs. Patriots - ESPN
SEATTLE — Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold has been ruled out for the remainder of the team's season opener against the New England Patriots after suffering a hip injury on the first drive Wednesday night.
The Seahawks' radio broadcast specified that Darnold's injury is to his right hip.
Darnold landed on his right knee when he was sacked from behind by former Seahawks outside linebacker Dre'Mont Jones on third down. After he was examined in the medical tent, Darnold limped into the locker room as the Seahawks were taking the field for their second possession.
Darnold was initially announced as questionable to return before being downgraded to out for the remainder of the game.

In the rematch of Seattle's victory over the Patriots in Super Bowl LX, New England took a 7-0 lead in the second quarter when Drake Maye found rookie tight end Eli Raridon wide open in the end zone for a 2-yard touchdown. The Patriots reached the goal line after Seahawks cornerback Josh Jobe was flagged for pass interference after getting caught flat-footed on a flea-flicker.
The Patriots took a 10-0 lead in the third quarter after Andy Borregales hit a 50-yard field goal.
Lock, 29, has a 10-18 record as a starter over his first seven NFL seasons. He made five appearances last season as Darnold started every game.
