SEA Games; Indonesia Takes Bronze in Kickboxing, Aiming for Gold Medals

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia managed to take its first medal in the SEA Games 2021 with kickboxing athlete Nadya Nakhoir, who took home bronze in the full contact -48 kilogram weight class in Tuesday’s tournament.

Nakhoir’s goal to win gold was, unfortunately, stopped at the semifinals after losing 0-3 to Thailand’s athlete Thi Hang Nga.

“Alhamdulillah (Praise to God)we took home our first medal for Indonesia from kickboxing class via athlete Nadya Nakhoir,” said Indonesia SEA Games team chief de mission (CdM) Ferry J. Kono in a press statement from NOC Indonesia.

“We hope this will help motivate other athletes to win more medals for Indonesia,” he added.

On Wednesday, May 11, Indonesia has the chance to add its potential medal tally from two other classes in rowing’s women quadruple sculls, lightweight men's double sculls, men's double sculls, women's four and four classes in Pencak silat.

“These are tournaments we have the potential to win the gold medals. We ask for the support and prayers from the Indonesian public,” said Kono.

So far, Indonesia is in sixth place in the medal standings with 1 bronze. Malaysia leads by collecting 13 medals (6 gold, 2 silver, and 5 bronze). While host nation Thailand is in second place with 14 medals (4 gold, 4 silver, and 6 bronze).
