'Scream Queen' Samara Weaving to star in remake of 'ultraviolent and darkly comedic' Netflix horror film

Samara Weaving is set to star in a new thriller that draws inspiration from one of the most unconventional horror-comedies of recent years.

The film, which originally featured Noomi Rapace of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo fame and Aksel Hennie, is 2021's The Trip. It tells the story of a dysfunctional couple who visit a secluded cabin with the intention of mending their relationship.

Yet, the plot takes a wildly dark comedic twist when it's revealed that both partners have secretly plotted to murder each other, only for their plans to be disrupted by unexpected guests.

Weaving, whose credits include Scream VI, Ready or Not, and The Babysitter series, has been cast alongside Jason Segel. The ensemble also boasts Timothy Olyphant, Juliette Lewis, Paul Guilfoyle, and MMA fighter Keith Jardine.

Jorma Taccone of The Lonely Island fame is at the helm, directing from a screenplay penned by Nick Kocher and Brian McElhaney, with production currently taking place in Tampere, Finland, reports the Mirror US.

Tommy Wirkola, director of the original movie, expressed his enthusiasm: "I can't wait to see Jorma bring his totally singular sensibility to the material.

"That, combined with this killer cast, makes me beyond excited that this film will truly stand out in the cinematic landscape."

Taccone also shared his thoughts: "I'm a huge fan of Tommy's work and I love the original film. I have a totally singular sensibility, and I can't wait to see what I bring to the material."

For those curious about the story, the original Norwegian version of the thriller is available for streaming on Netflix.

The film has garnered quite the cult following, as evidenced by a fan's comment on Letterboxd: "It's part comedy, thriller, action, drama and
